DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2014 - 2015

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2014/15

Chairmans Report - DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2014 - 2015It is with great pleasure that I present to you the 2014/15 Annual Report for DemoDAIRY Co-operative Limited. Firstly I would like to thank all our partners, sponsors and shareholders for their continuous support during the challenging times of 2014/15. During this time DemoDAIRY Board has strived to deliver the best possible service to the dairy industry whilst maintaining a positive outlook and implementing prudent financial management. As DemoDAIRY receives no government funding the Board’s main challenge is to strike a balance between commercial reality and delivering outcomes according to DemoDAIRY’s purpose.

For the year ending June 2015 DemoDAIRY Co-operative Limited reported a cash loss of $-37,257. However the accounting loss was due to a downturn in livestock value of $-91,150.

Co-operative Administration had a successful year managing projects on behalf of industry partners. In addition to running projects the precinct has been well maintained and the number of events being run out of DemoDAIRY increased over 13/14 financial year. The total number of events conducted at DemoDAIRY (excluding NCDEA classes) during 2014/2015 amounted to 102.

It is important to recognise the work our volunteer Board members do on behalf of shareholders and community. Their time and dedication is greatly appreciated and it is pleasing to see new members join the Board who bring exceptional skills in both business and farm management. The mix of skills and attributes will be of great benefit to DemoDAIRY in the development of future plans and activities.

Thank you to all the dedicated and talented staff at DemoDAIRY who take on new challenges with passion and enthusiasm and in doing so contribute to making DemoDAIRY a positive and vibrant workplace for everyone.

We would also like to thank Dairy Australia for their ongoing support of DemoDAIRY.

In closing, as I am retiring from the board of DemoDAIRY after a nine year term. I’d like to thank all the farmers and stakeholders who have supported DemoDAIRY and me over this time. I look forward to a long spring, a buoyant milk price and a profitable and sustainable dairy industry future.

DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2012-2013

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2013/2014

It is with great pleasure that I present to you the 2013/14 Annual Report for DemoDAIRY Co-operative Limited. As DemoDAIRY received no government funding, the Boards main challenge is to strike a balance between commercial reality and delivery outcomes according to DemoDAIRY’s purpose.

The 2013/14 financial year was the first full year of the renewed focus on profits. The farm financial performance has improved significantly and there is still room for improvement.  As we look to the future we see the need to retire debt. DemoDAIRY is in the public eye and it is our continuous endeavour that we reflect the standards expected of a dairy demonstration farm.

DemoDAIRY has continued to support the industry through provision of facilities to conduct activities, increase in the number and type of school visits, providing project support to external agencies, accommodating Department of Environment and Primary Industry research projects and continuing to develop the farm as a point of interest and training for new entrants into the dairy industry.

DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2012-2013

Chairman's Report

It is with pleasure that I present to you the 2012/13 Annual Report for DemoDAIRY Co-operative Limited. During this time DemoDAIRY was greatly impacted by the downturn in milk price and the Board responded with the implementation of prudent financial management. As DemoDAIRY receives no government funding (or payment from dairy levies) the Board’s main challenge is to strike a balance between commercial reality and delivering outcomes according to DemoDAIRY’s purpose.

For the year ending June 2013 DemoDAIRY Co-operative Limited reported a cash loss of $-49,978 which is $29,453 more than the cash loss made in 2011/12 (i.e. $-20,525). As the Board has already advised shareholders, a strategic review of the farm’s operations has led to a decision to change to a less intensive milk production system.

Annual Report 2015 - 2016

DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2014 - 2015

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2015/16

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you for 2015/2016 Annual Report for DemoDAIRY Co-erative Limited.

DemoDAIRY Annual Report 2015-2016

It was a real privilege for me to have been Chairman of the Board this year, replacing Bryan Dickson who retired as Chairman at the 2014/2015 AGM. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Bryan for his service to DemoDAIRY. He served with distinction, focus and at all times ensuring ethical behaviour. We thank him for his significant contribution not just to DemoDAIRY but to all of the Dairy industry.

The 2015/2016 year has been one of many challenges for the dairy industry. We have experienced a difficult season, low milk price and staff changeovers at DemoDAIRY. With all of these challenges, we have had to react in some instances very quickly.

Despite a disappointing financial result, the business has continued to move forward. The number of visitors and school kids continues to increase every year at DemoDAIRY, which reinforces the value of DemoDAIRY to the local dairy industry.

My challenge and the Boards challenge moving forward, is to ensure we deliver relevance to the community, farming industry, sponsors and shareholders while being profitable.

Thank you to all the dedicated and talented staff at DemoDAIRY who take on new challenges with great passion and enthusiasm and in doing so contribute to making DemoDAIRY a positive and vibrant workplace for everyone.

It is important to recognise the work our volunteer board members do. Their time and dedication is greatly appreciated. The mix of skills and attributes of these board members are of great benefit to DemoDAIRY in the development of future plans and activities.

DemoDAIRY is once again grateful for the support and generosity of our sponsors and I urge shareholders to support these organisations which kindly support us.

In closing, I look forward to a strong milk price, long spring and profitable and sustainable dairy industry.

Ralph Leutton
Chairman
