Comments
Continuing to build pasture cover before the end of June by using a long grazing rotation. Pellets have been reduced from 7 to 5 kg/cow as more pasture is available and to combat the reduced milk prices. We continue to cull less profitable cows. Should be able to stop feeding silage to the milkers when we move to a 40 day rotation in early July. Yearlings went to agistment at the start of May.

Comments

57 cows calved in the last week so we should see milk production lift quickly now. Springers getting 3 kg of lead fed and 12 kg of cereal hay. Milkers getting 1 ha of pasture/24 hours. We will restrict the grazing area while the herd is small to increase the pasture cover before winter. Silage should last until late May when grass can replace it. Autumn fertiliser has been applied, planning to apply urea mid May.
